Amelio,

Gil has over 35
years high technology experience, 26 years of P&L management, and 6 years of
venture capital experience. He has held top executive responsibility at several
billion-dollar global corporations.
Gil was Chairman
and CEO of Apple Computer, President of Rockwell International, Chairman,
President & CEO of National Semiconductor Corporation, and Chairman and CEO of
Jazz Technologies. Earlier in his career, he worked at Bell Labs, Fairchild
Semiconductor, and the semiconductor division of Rockwell International. He led
the seminal work on the CCD imager and holds patents on related inventions. He
has also been a Senior Partner at Sienna Ventures, a technology venture-capital
firm focused on semiconductors, photonics, and IT infrastructure investments
where he led a number of successful venture capital investments.
He is currently the
senior member of the Board of Directors of AT&T Inc. He was elected a Director
of AT&T in February 2001 and had previously served as an Advisory Director of
AT&T (then known as SBC Communications Inc.). Gil has been a Director of Pacific
Telesis, Chiron, Sematech, the Georgia Tech Advisory Board (as chairman), the
American Film Institute and several private technology companies. He is a
former Director and Chairman of the Semiconductor Industry Association. Since
1996, he has been an advisor to Malaysia's Prime Minister and to the Malaysia
Multimedia Super Corridor.
Gil received a
Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. in Physics from the Georgia Institute of
Technology. He is an IEEE Fellow and has been awarded 16 patents.
Gil is the
author of three books, An American Imperative (1993), Profit from
Experience (1995), and On the Firing Line: My 500 Days at Apple
(1998), the latter two of which were business bestsellers. |
